Aeschylus and the Grace of God

Aeschylus said, 

"Even in our sleep, pain which cannot forget
falls drop by drop upon the heart, until,
in our own despair,
against our will,
comes wisdom through the awful grace of God."

Never would I have thought to combine the word "awful" with the grace of God. 

Until now.

Learning to detach from people you love can be the awful grace of God. And, yes, it comes only with hard earned wisdom. There comes a time in your life when you decide to get off the merry-go-round of dysfunction. But here’s a warning, the folks from whom you’re detaching will not be sending you a thank you note.

  1. Bren, I must admit I am having a very difficult time wrapping my arms around the idea of "the awful grace of God," but then, I struggled to understand the wonder of God's grace. Thank you for causing me to spending some time contemplating God's grace.

  2. I agree it is a mental-gymnastic to combine the two. But then, the whole concept of God stretches us daily!
